July 2009

ProAm shirts.

We made shirts for the crew for ProAm.

Road to Seattle ProAm

I have decided to document the final few weeks leading up to the Formula D ProAm that Chris, Ian, and myself (Trent), will be driving at. We all have been preparing slowly and surely for the event, from buying the much needed safety equipment from places like Drivers Edge Autosports in Vancouver, to making our cars Formula D spec.

There has been a lot of time and money invested in the dreams we all share and the sport we love, drifting. But money is not all it takes.

This journey I will take you on will cover what we have to do as a team to prep ourselves for the event. I will not cover car setups, except if there is a mishap, instead it's the mental and planning I will be covering.

Today is Monday, July 27th, the event officially begins in Thursday Aug 6th, as that is tech and setup night. Today we are meeting to discuss what is left for the team to do, where everyone stands for all their gear, and who will be pit crew. It may not seam like much, but there are 3 if us driving, and we will need to share crew members.

We also need to plan out the other things like where we are staying and who is coming for sure. Did I mention that we have to go 100 or so miles to get to the event, bringing tires, replacement parts and more with our racecars and a small truck. Fun.

Relaxing at the fireworks

So Ian and I along with our significant others made a trip to Drivers Edge to pick up some saftey necessities and afterwards decided to head to the beach and watch some fireworks.

Evergreen Drift Practice July 19th Footage

Ian, Mat, and Trent were all driving the Evergreen Speedway over the weekend for some last practice before ProAm in Aug. Brayden took some footage and quickly through this video together to show us how we were doing. Well we decided to share. There will be more pictures and such posted tonight. Enjoy the footage.

Stupid drifting.

Well it has come to this. Working on a drift car 24/7. This week we are getting Pat's 2jz S13 ready for Chris to use at DMCC this weekend.

Drifting the new shell. Engines breaking, and other sillyness?

After the 9 days of building, pat and I joined a bug group of Vancouver drivers in the treck to Victoria for a capital d drift event at westen speedway. We met up with Chris, Steve from oz designs, Peter from Neptune d, Kohei and even Doug Suen for some drifting fun.

After some warmup laps, the hatch was leaking some fluids. The brake fluid was a bit full, and the clutch hardline to slave line was slightly loose. Also the push lock hose on the turbo drain was leaking.

After tightening up those issues the car was running good.

Peter on the other hand melted his brake booster after 2 runs, which hurt his driving for the rest of the day.

During practice Doug went wide on a bank and hit a tire wall, doing a number on the side of his car.

During qualifying Chris qualified first, Trent second and Kohei third. We were dominating the event.

During the first tandem battle, Chris lost a cylinder, and then a lot of oil. This ended his runs for the day, we will now be sourcing a new sr for his corolla this week as he is competing in DMCC West on the 19th.

Steve also was having engine problems and had to end his day early due to his catch can filling up fast with oil.

For Kohei and Trent, the moved on to a final battle for first. Trent was having some issues with traction on a new tire, and passed the win to Kohei. Trent was second followed by our stunt driving friend Duane Dickenson.

After the event, we hit the bar, then got 2 rooms at a Traveller's Inn in Victoria. From there the night never really ended for some. That is a whole different story. :)

Day 9, completed.

Ya that's right, we managed to finish the car today. All is reasembled except a few minor parts. I took it for a test ride around 1am and yup, it's alive.

Scotts wheels. Ae86. Hmmm

Day 9. Im getting tired.

Well today chris came in to finish the dimples for the cage to pillars, and I started the assembly process. Shawn and Pat then joined in the fun to help, together we started the wiring and finished mounting the over fenders. Tomorrow will be the final assembly, hopefully.

Day 8

Today we started some painting and assembly. Doors, fenders, and hatch installed.

Day 7 of the chassis swap

Today we finished the fuel lines, installed all the intercooler and rad bits, and welded the roof back on. Crazy stuff. Now it is just finish wiring, finish welding the cage and dimples, getting glass, and some tlc and she's running. All before friday. Arrg.

Day 6

On day 5, we mostly worked on engine hookup and such, but on the 6th day, we cut the roof off the new chassis.

More to come...

Day 4

We continued on with the rebuild. This day was focusing on getting the cage out which was no easy task. The car had to be cut in pieces just to get the cage out. :(

Day 3ish

Today we started peeping the new chassis we picked up the day before. With the help of many friends we then pounded the tranny tunnel, cut out the battery tray, cut holes for the interooler piping and then painted the engine bay. Wow that was a long sentence. Then chris removed the 2 windshelids, without breaking. Amazing.

Then we sawed the roof off the coupe. Lol

Day 2. Omg

With the help from Ian, Neal, Scott, Zack, Mat, jasmine, Amanda and the free car from Yanni, we have made some serious progress. Here are todays pictures.
