Formula Drift Seattle 2011!

The Drift Safari Boys had a great weekend in Seattle. Many ups and downs! After arriving to the track for practice on Thursday, we found out that Ians freshly assembled set up had a few major leaks coming from the custom oil pan. Everyone stayed up until 4 am wrenching on the car to get the leaks fixed so that Ian could rock practice and qualifying
Both Ian and Trents cars were running great! They both looked solid on the Bank ridding the wall!. During qualifying, Trent changed his tire set up adding alot of extra grip. Not ready for it, Trent had a few little hiccups on the bank causing him to graze the wall with his entire back bumper! The bump even caused his electric fan mounts to rip through his koyo radiator causing a few major leaks! We fixed the leak on Friday with some water weld, and let it set over night.

Saturday morning, we reinstalled the radiator only to find it was leaking between the cooling fins deep in the rad. Trent got on the phone and called around to find a loaner rad but it was no where to be found. Pat got to work cutting the fins out of the rad and finding the leak. With a little more water weld, it was sealed and ready to rock!

Ian's top 16 run was against good friend Kevin Peterson in the Serialnine 1jz powered MX73. Kevin was fighting clutch issues the whole weekend and barely got his car together for top 16. Ian won the battle against Kevin and moved on to top 8.

Trent's Top 16 battle was cut short as mechanical problems forced him to retire. Sadly, Trent had to cheer Ian on from the sidelines!

Ian battled his way to the Finals against Nik Jimenez who was looking solid all weekend. Nik had a great lead run, but Ian was on him the whole way. Ians lead run was unreal! Wall tapping, loosing his bumper and overfender, he ran a clean line and rocked it to the finish line! Nik was right on his tale but had to straighten to aviod contact.

Congrats to the podium finishers of Pro am! Ian Fournier 1st, Nik Jimenez 2nd, and Chris Jeanneret 3rd!

Ian Wins Formula D Pro am Seattle!

D.U.I in Penticton!!!

That's right, the Drift Union Invitation.  Mat, Trent, Pete, Chris
and Matt Do, made the trip out to Penticton last weekend to throw their
cars around for a day!!

Mat and Trent's Friday
started out a little rough.  Both of the trailers they were supposed to
rent ended up not working out.  They ended up finding two trailers last
minute.  When we were going to load the Skyline onto the trailer it
didn't want to run on it's own.  Pat came over and we spent the night
trying to figure it out. We re-weired the coilpacks hopeing the cracked
and exposed wiring was the problem. It wasn't.  By this time it was
about 11:00pm and we decided to load the trailers up and take the trip
to Penticton anyway.  Hoping to solve the problem in the morning.  We
planned to be in Penticton by 9....(we left at 11:30. haha)

Filling up the trucks and ourselves with energy before we head out!!

Wemade it into Penticon at 3am, and hit the sack.  Only to wake up at 9am
to try and Mat's Skyline running.  We head over to the Husky to wash
the cars and to meet up with Ramsay Trew.  Ramsay stuck around for a
couple hours while we tried to pinpoint the problem.  Eventually we
decided it was a dead MAP sensor so we called and drove around trying
to find one. GM wanted $700 for a cross referenced replacement part.
F&^*) that!!!  We made a few phone calls and got Pat Lee and Eric
Zapata to bring one to the track to swap out.  We put in the new sensor
at the track and............ NOTHING!!  It wasn't the problem. So
everyone got together again to put their heads together.  Eventually
Steve Thompson from Drift Union told us he had a problem before with
his FCD and he took it out.  So we decided to try that. We pulled out
the FCD and right away the car was running!!!!! Literally 5 minutes
before the event started!!!

All day the car ran awesome and Drift Safari was throwing down!!!  Now for the event pics!! :D

Steve Thompson @ EVD Apr.10

I ran into steve down at Evergreen speedway and was a bit surprised.  I hadn't seen him out there in a long time (not sure the Soarer had ever run it before).

Here he is doing some last minute prep work before the day began.  With is new tune and some other new goodies the car was ready to hit the bank..... if only it was dry

It eventually did dry up and as you can see he took to the track in true Steve fashion...

Little tire warm up before a run!

Thankfully the staff on hand was nice enough to wipe his window off before each run... No wipers, no windows, not much in this car except a motor and a cage!

And he's off... great day out at the track.  Sadly it got a little wet but that didn't seem to slow anyone down at all!
